Possible to flash mobo without cpu?

My friend bought some new equipment recently, but is now having some problems. He bought a gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r along with an i7 930. For some reason the bios can't use (?) the cpu, so he'll have to flash the mobo to a newer version, but how is it possible, without a fuctioning cpu in? if it is possible at all

Hi.

1- Can u run without your head? I don't think so, it's the same for the BIOS update.
2- U can install the CPU even without the right BIOS version and flash the BIOS with that CPU.
