Possibly Burned PCIE Slot

I have an M17x R3 and about 2 years ago, I accidentally put the gpu in with the power cable still attached. After a spark or two, it would no longer detect my gpu (but still booted with igfx) and I saw a very small burn mark on the gpu's connector. I tried another gpu from ebay and when that didn't work either, I assumed that the connector must be damaged from the motherboard's side (though, due to the unreliability of ebay products, it might still be the gpu).

The burn mark is very small, so, can I fix it? Also, am I correct to assume that the connector is the problem, or is there a better way to diagnose and test my components?

[strike]I dunno what you did because it shouldn't have sparked unless it was powered on while inserted or removing the card. I mus have removed a dozen or more cards with the PCIE cable attached because I forgot about it, but it wasn't on either.

Have you tried a different PCIE slot to make sure your didn't damge the slot itself.?

You might have also just shorted that port port on the power supply if it modular. You could try a different PCIE 6/8pin connector also and see if that works. If you don't have a second one, you could cut the ends and remake the connector yourself. It's only worth the hassle if your PSU is expensive and you have a bunch of free time.[/strike]
