Possibly upgrading CPU (And maybe GPU) for gaming? Concerns about mini motherboard as well.

Hello there,

I built my PC almost 2-3 years ago in a mini tower for mobility purposes due to moving around a lot at the time, as such I have an Asus Z170M - plus socket LGA1151 motherboard that just about fits the tower with 16G of RAM, an i5-6600k and a GTX 1070. However, Ive started noticing my system struggling to perform well, let alone hold a stable frame rate with newer game releases such as BFV and was wondering what I could do to change that. First of all, should I even bother upgrading my CPU or GPU due to its age, and if I upgrade the CPU to say an i7k in general or even an 8th gen will I have compatibility issues with my motherboard? What would one suggest to get the rig to a bit more of a modern standard that will cope with intensive newer games?

Thanks!

Check your MB to see it has the 3017 version BIOS at least or not, it does has you are fine. If it does not, you need to update the BIOS before you switch to the new i7.
For the BFV, you should get the i7 like the i7 7700k. According the review, the gtx1070 is fine, but if you want, and get the gtx1080ti https://www.techspot.com/review/1746-battlefield-5-gpu-performance/

Forget about the 8th i7, here one more review https://www.techspot.com/review/1754-battlefield-5-cpu-multiplayer-bench/ If you want the 8th gen cpu, you have to buy the z370 MB too.
