POST displaying on wrong monitor, Windows displays on correct monitor.

Hi everyone,

I have my main monitor connected via DisplayPort and my 2nd monitor connected via HDMI to my MSI Nvidia 780Ti, when i turn on my computer the POST screen/BIOS displays on the 2nd monitor but then as soon as Windows starts it knows that i set my primary monitor to my 1st monitor and changes accordingly.

I'm lead to believe this is to do with the hard 'coded' port boot priority on the graphics card itself so it obviously prioritises HDMI over DisplayPort.

My idea was to put a DisplayPort -> DVI-D adapter from the monitor to the graphics card, as i'm lead to believe that the DVI port (not sure if this includes DVI-D) has priority over everything else. My concern was that it wouldn't carry the 1440p resolution that i am running, as lots of them list a max resolution of 1080p, but i'm also lead to believe that a DVI-D cable should carry that resolution? So i'm a little confused. Any ideas?

Thanks.

We set up dual 24"s at my job with 2x displayport cables and it is never consistent.
If it really matters, physically move the monitors so the POST is on the one you want, then in Windows change the primary and rearrange the order.
Behind the scenes windows may see it as #2 | #1 but you should have the functionality you want.
Could be a slight misunderstanding. You need a DVI-D Dual Link for 1440p.

This conversion requires an active adapter. There is one on Newegg for $30 but the reviews are not good. A decent one will run about $100 and should work for that.

Guess it depends on how much avoiding an occasional button press is worth to you.

Ah yes, sorry i misunderstood. Well that's a shame, doesn't appear to be a conclusive way to avoid the issue or it could be a costly way to avoid it. I may just have to live with it. Thanks.

You would think with displayport being the replacement for everything that it would load first. I have the same issue as you. My main monitor is displayport and the secondary is HDMI, using a GTX 970.

I wonder if it is possible to mod the BIOS to change the order or if it is just hard coded in the chip.

I've seen some conflicting discussions but most people seem to say it's a BIOS thing, no idea how to mod it or if a modded version is already available, doesn't seem to be.

I actually have the same too, using r9 280.
all posts go to the second screen and once windows comes up it goes up on my main screen.
and i also have main screen to dvi-d port and second i have adapter from hdmi->vga
