Hi everyone.

I just bought a new Acer Nitro VG240Y X1 monitor and it came with a 16 amp power cable. And my problem is that I don't have a 16 amp power outlet, neither in my wall nor in my UPS.

After a lot of searching online and with no results to show for it I finally asked AI for help.

Gemini told me that even though it came with 16 amp cable it can still be used with a 6 amp cable as, at its max, it draws 48 watts of power, and 6 amp cables can safely handle that. My house has more than the standard Indian 230 volts (but I don't know the exact number).

Can someone please tell me if this is true? And if not then what do I do?

If monitor is 48W, then at 230V it requires 0.2A.
And you're worrying, if 16A cable will be capable of delivering 0.2A.
There is no problem. You're worrying about nothing.

Not 16a. That's the cable that came with the monitor. I don't have a 16a outlet. My old monitor runs on a 6a cable. My wall and UPS outlets only support the 6a cable. 16a is too big for them. Big in size, not power.

Also, I don't actually know if the monitor uses 48 watts. That's what Gemini told me. Here's a link to the monitor and the store page from where I bought. They both show different specs in power.

Average power consumption 23W, max power consumption 48W. Gemini is correct.

So you're worrying, if 6A outlet will be able to deliver 0.2A.
Again - there is no problem.

Wait - are you saying power connectors are not compatible? (power cable and outlet)
Or am I misunderstanding?

Then you need a power cable adapter/converter.
Or reuse cable from your old monitor.
That is what I'm saying. The socket on my wall and UPS only support 6A cords. That's why when I saw that the monitor came with a 16A I was worried that I cannot run it if I can't even power it because the monitor's plug won't even fit my socket.

But since it is a detachable cord I can just swap out the new one with the old one that ran my old monitor. But then I looked it up online and everywhere it said you shouldn't run a device that came with a 16A cord with a 6A one. I stressed over it all day until AI told me I can run this monitor on a 6A cord.

But I didn't wanna put all my eggs in the AI basket so I came here to ask real people with real experience about this.

Do not worry.
6A cable can support power to 0.2A device without any problems.
Is it common for monitors matching my specs to have a higher ampere power plug? This is my first time buying a monitor like this and I have no reference for it. I assumed every monitor comes with the standard 6A cable. Even my gaming PC is powered by a 6A cable.

Depends on region, I guess.
For manufacturers it's probably easier to provide single type of cable to all products, if costs do not differ too much.
That's what Gemini said.

It's strange that they are pushing 16A cables when the monitor does not need it in a place where it is not common to have 16A sockets. It just confuses the buyer, especially when they are buying it online. And returning electronics is a major headache in India that has just gotten worse with time.
