Question POST SCREEN SHOWS FOR 40 SECONDS BEFORE PC BOOTS INTO WINDOWS

Hi there

Recently I have found that the length of time taken for my PC to start the boot process after completely powering down and switching on (a hard boot) has increased from around 3 to 40 seconds. During this time the usual motherboard POST splash screen is shown. Once the 40 seconds has elapsed, the PC boots normally.

I cannot be 100% sure but this *MAY* be as a result of attempting to add an SSD to the PC which proved to be faulty and gave some very peculiar results. I have since removed the faulty SSD and replaced it with a fully functioning SATA II unit but the problem still exists.

I have tried removing all the peripherals except the keyboard and monitors and then rebooting, without making a difference. Consequently, I do not believe that this can be a Windows 10 problem as the operating system is not invoked until the boot process commences, so am suspicious of a setting in the UEFI / BIOS.

However, neither F2, DEL, F6, F11, TAB or even ESC work any longer from the POST splash screen and I cannot access the UEFI / BIOS any longer.

Neither can I access the UEFI / BIOS from within Windows, even though the boot disk is partitioned as GPT.

My motherboard is a ASRock H61M/U3S3 with 8.00 GB of RAM and an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz 3.10 GHz processor.

I am using Windows 10 Home, version 22H2.

Any suggestions or solutions will be much appreciated.

Regards

Phil
