BTW : serioulsy dont turn off Ani in this game....for 1.8 fps diff dont waste a feature that increase IQ alot...

i am now at 43.3 fps with the ati shader tweak. 1024*768 high with 8x ani.

What is the ATi shader tweak? My system is almost identical to yours, and I'd like to squeeze more power out of my system. A lot of the supposed "tweaks" don't do anything, I had to turn off V-Sync to get high framerates. I don't care about the "freezing" thing that happens inbetween areas, I just want higher general performance at high detail.

Thanks for the warning about how boring the game is. To think I was about to go to Circuit City today and waste $45 on it. Too bad, I wanted to benchie some systems.

I have actually gone back and installed HalfLife and am determined to finish it(this time) before HL2 comes out. I also have Wolfenstein and Serious Sam ($10 bargain bin) that I never even cracked the box open. Maybe I will, I'm Trying to resist spending the money on D3.

Agreed....This game rocks and will have you whimpering like a little girl lost in the woods on a cold night with a full moon. I already peed my pants twice and shat them once. Go out and buy this game if not only for history in the making.

LOL, sorry I was just joking. Yeah, after the farcry complaints (I loved it), I sure know not to trust one persons point of view. But, hey this was GW. Of course his opinion matters.

Anyway, I did buy the game, just no time to open/play it yet. I am seriously considering returning it though. I don't want to spend the time/money on Doom3 right now and I've read lots of people complain it gets boring. Looking at the latest THG review even... it's going back. I had little interest in the Doom series. I only bought it as a visual breakthrough/must have game. And it seems that many folks say it falls short on gameplay. I probably would enjoy it, but I'd rather use the money to pay bills and play HL2 next month.

I bought it the day it came out, my friend immediately installed it and beat it in like 4 days. In the interim, I had been playing my new copy of Max Payne 2 (talk about interactive environments, that game is awesome!!). Then, on a lark... I installed a copy of Knights of the Old Republic a friend had lent me.... once again, another godly game I will finish before I play D3. I just hope D3 can stack up against the other 2.

Dude THG game reviews suck. Their Doom 3 review sucks. He complains about stupid things.

Like this for instance: "In Doom 3, it was very hard to get this sense of your self. I seemed to get caught up on crates, misjudge ladders, or bump into boxes I thought I could clear. Either I was bigger than the impressive reflections I saw in the bathroom mirrors, or some objects had bigger size in the code than showed on screen. A number of times I was shooting at undead space marines near crates or through walkway railing at imps and the plasma bursts or bullets would be stopped as if the railing was a wall or the crates where larger than they appeared."

Um... what's he smoking? I don't experience that at all.

1024x768 High Detail= 35.7 fps 3rd run
(Played smooth after first run)

800x600 High Detail = 45 fps 3rd run
(Playes smooth after first run. Fireballs easy to follow. Jaggies where much more obvious at this res.)

my system specs are
P4 2.8b
gig of 1066 rambus
Radeon 9700pro

Edit: More results: Note: anything under 1024x768 pixels and jaggies are very obvious.

800x600 High 4AA 29.5 fps
640x480 High 48.5 fps
640x480 High 4AA 38 fps
and just for fun
640x480 Ultra 44.4 fps

EDIT 2: I OC'd my 9700pro (342 core and 330 memory)

1024/768 no AA: 37.5 (2.2 fps increase)

800/600 no AA: 47.5 (2.5 fps increase)

It is noticably faster in the game. All my games feel smoother with the OC

Edit3: I ran stick with some Omega drivers and no difference in performance at all.

Quality High for both tests and no VSync or shadows.

im not impressed. could probably get it higher, but im probably not going to spend time tweaking a game that i dont play alot , if you know what im saying

edit: (if i set my mipmap and texture LOD to lowest, i gain about 5fps, but high quality then looks like medium or even low in some places)

Strange....

When i alter settings in my graphics card menu to balanced from performance i get an increase in FPS..

Setting Performance
1024x768 - Quality High - 53.1 Fps

Setting Balanced
1024x768 - Quality High - 57.8 Fps

Dont quite know how that works!?

Well it would make sense logically wouldn't it, to get better performance? All it's changing is the mipmap/texture detail settings, from high quality to high performance. Usually this dosn't do much (at least on 9800s+), but it looks like it does more in D3 than other games based off your numbers. It's LAME though as it lowers quality.

Yeah but in this case increasing the quality is increasing my performance.

Performance setting
- Mip Map level detail - Performance
- Texture preferance - Performance
- FPS 53 FPS

Balanced setting
- Mip Map level detail - High Quality
- Texture Preferance - High Quality
- 57.9 FPS

yea but you got it backwards. hes increasing quality settings, and it increases his framerates

now, there IS a bug with ATI cards where if you set AF in the control panel, it reduces performance by alot. perhaps balanced has "application preference", and performance overrides and sets its own levels?
