Posting Comments in Tomsguide

I can't seem to be able to post comments on Tomsguide. Forum posts are working fine, but every time I write a comment and press submit, it refreshes the page without showing my comment..... 🙁

Looks like you're running an ad blocker, though the illegal character messages aren't very descriptive. What browser is this? FF I imagine?

Ok, Now I'm getting the 3 Messages within 10 minutes warning, so I'll just edit this post.
This glitch started only a month ago.... and wasn't the case before.... Last I changed or added something to the list of blocked sites must've been like 6 Months ago.... so that adblocker isn't the reason...... 'cos it mainly doesn't exist as an adblocker...

Hey?? Tomshardware.com is fine.... it's tomsguide that's having a problem.... and it ain't listed in the banned sites, it was fully functional.... till a month ago in my case....

Well, from what I can make out from that the MIME types have been set wrong for some files, or not at all. Not really a big issue, browsers are pretty smart at working it out.

i tried a different PC in my room, a older build i have. I still have the same issue. Nothing posts. Meaning something isn't right, although i do use Chrome for all my PC's. Is this a chrome problem or a toms problem? And will it ever be fixed. How can i fix it?

Well I've just infected my computer with Chrome and had no problems posting comments on TG or TH, so I don't think it's a browser issue; at least not a stock browser issue (addons might change things). Unfortunately with the heavy use of JavaScript it could well be a client-side issue that crops up under certain conditions. Errors may not be thrown because the JS may be valid, but the logic may be wrong. The problem may also lie server-side.

I saw the video, its exactly what happens to me. Page loads, no comment. "Randomizer" is there anyways if i say delete everything in chrome, meaning i uninstall it and get rid of everything in my registry that has chrome in it, and i reinstall it would that fix it or do you think its really on toms side thats the issue? Which if it toms side then i obviously can't do anything about it really. I mind as well be happy i at least can post on the forums if i ever have PC troubles. Thats a relief =P haha. Thanks for replies guys, i appreciate it. Hope it does get resolved if i can't do much about it. Cheers!

Since it did not affect me running Chrome, I don't think it's a Chrome issue, although any addons you have might possibly be causing it. One more thing: open the Network tab of the developer tools (just right-click on the page and click Inspect Element to open it quickly) and check that when you submit the comment you get a POST request to http://www.tomshardware.com/comments/. If you do, check the contents of the request to see if the "commentaire" variable contains the content of your comment. I'm not familiar enough with Chrome's dev tool to know off the top of my head how to view the contents of the request (and I uninstalled Chrome after finishing with it earlier), but it shouldn't be too difficult.

yes, if you try from another rig and the problem still occurs.... as I have from quite a few rigs.... then yes, the problem does lie server side...

Double-check your network tab. Note that is must be open before the request is performed or it won't show up. I recommend opening the network tab, refreshing the page before posting, clearing the tab of current results (there's a button in the lower left for this) and then posting while it's open. You should get many hits, but the ones we're interested in are only POST requests, not GET. I don't think you can filter out only those unfortunately.

Is this using Firebug? If it is, make sure that when you expand the request that you go to the Post tab and not the Headers tab (which is the default). You should see something like this:
