I am going to build a PC in the near-future with a HAF 922. I really like the black color, but the inside color with the generic gray color doesn't really please me. I was thinking that I could powdercoat the case, but that brought up alot of questions. If anyone has ever done this, your input would be really appreciated. Also, if there is a better way of recoloring the case then that would be cool too.

When colouring a texture surface, you really cant get better than powder coating. They electrically charge the body of the item then spray in the powder. this results in an even coating all over with little deviation on thickness.

What you should do is google powder coating in your area and have a ring round to see what sort of prices you can get. Please remember that this wont be very cost effective as these companies tend to work on mass orders and batches.

The other thing to remember is that this process will coat every available surface, including catches and screw holes, so if you get this done you may need to clean off some of the coating on certain areas for your case to go back together.

If the outside has already been coated then I would suggest you don't get this done again. If you layer up coatings they can turn into an "orange peel" effect and this will ruin the look of the case. Speak to the company you choose and explain that you only want to do the inside of the case and they should be able to accommodate your needs.

Choose your colour wisely otherwise your then sending your case off to be dipped to start again :)

Good Luck

Before you do powder coating, remember to drill all holes on the case a little bigger, as the powder fills them up and can make screws unable to pass through them afterwards. You cannot powder coat a case yourself, so you're going to have to contact someone who can. Usually people who make steel tables and chairs, as well as bigger car manufacturers will be able to assist you in this. On the other side, if you can buy a case with complete black insides, I'd suggest it far over modifying a new one. It's going to be expensive to powdercoat a new case, and there is a large chance of the case being pulled a little skew. Powder coating gets baked onto the surface at high temps, and as such can cause problems.

Overall, powdercoating is an extremely good coating, but the troubles of getting through it is too much. I'd not recommend it.

Is there any other way to get the look that I am looking for?

Actually I had this done on a element G case. Sandblasted the guts to get the black finish off and had it powder coated in a dark red. I actually did it myself with a home use powder gun I got from Sears, then baked it in the oven at 450 for 20 minutes. It came out quite nice, but the gun never worked again after the first use.

I'd recommend standard textures spray. Seeing as you're not going to coat the outside as well, it'll be quick, easy, cheaper and much easier to maintain. Textures paints can be bought at any hardware store, and can be applied with either brush or spray. I'd recommend spray though, the coverage is much more professional.

Unless you find a local company who have experience in powder coating thin metals, then i agree with the string in NOT having this done.

Spray painting is effective both on cost and finished result. Just remember lots of thin coats will look much better than one heavy coat.
