Question Power issue

Hello! So I just switched out the motherboard on my PC, it was an old Intel system and I upgraded to a new mobo and CPU from AMD. When I first had everything in, everything would light up and turn on but no video, no problem it happens. Took the video card out, put in the on board and tried that, same issue. So I completely unwired it, double checked them, and re plugged everything in. Now I get nothing, like the computer isn't plugged into the wall (it is, in a working outlet). I got a working PSU I know is good and still nothing. Is my mobo bad?

I removed all hard drives, and tried. Same results. No lights on the case or the mobo.

Gigabyte B450m ds3h
Nvidia 1650
32 GB Trident royal RAM
Ryzen 7 5800x
Corsair 750 e modular psu
I am assuming my motherboard is dead at this point, but not sure. Any ideas?

Almost assuredly this is going to be a BIOS update issue considering 450 chipset and 5xxx CPU.

There may be a revision or BIOS version sticker on the mobo somewhere. Most likely you will need to find the absolute cheapest 2nd gen CPU you can find (cough-Athlon) and update the BIOS and then install the 5800X. I would also advise against trying overclocks with that setup. Might get away with some XMP.

I mean I get nothing. How can I even update the bios if I cannot the computer to power on period? That's my issue. Everything was turning on, so I figured bios issue but wanted to double check and reseat, after reseat, I get nothing, ram doesn't light up (usually lights up on switching the psu on before even turning the PC on), no fans spinning , nada, like it's just. Dead

read the edit, and check your connections and CPU pins.

Should I just get a stronger mobo? Double checked pins before install. There was some thermal paste in one hole that I got as much as I could of from previous owner

YIKES!

Get some really "high proof" isopropyl and flush it out. Clean the CPU very gently. You might need some of the orange cleaner ala Arcticlean (not a promotion) or similar to use first, then flush.
Even if you do that you are quite possibly going to need to update the BIOS. You might could try asking the previous owner if they are aware what it was on. F60 will be required for that 5800X.

Roger that. I'll have to try that tomorrow then. I appreciate your quick help and I'll update tomorrow!

Make sure to use a very soft brush and leave plenty of time for the alcohol to evaporate off. Might even be worth taking the blow drier to it for a moment even after you think it is dry. And sorry, but I also should mention this will be best done breadboarded out of the sytem, not connected to the power supply and also to take out the CMOS battery. Just CYA for both of us.

Update, while we were talking I was letting my computer sit with cmos battery out. After plugging it back in, the ram is lighting up now and staying lit. That's as far as we got.

GOOD MORNING. Ok making progress. I believe my power button went bad. I jumped it and it lit up, fans are spinning, still no video, now when I do plug the HDMI into the board my monitor turns on, cycles through the inputs, no Input detected. So I am assuming NOW I need to do the chip set to get visuals. Correct?

I cleaned it like you said and let it sit overnight to dry

Just to be clear on this aspect, you are plugging the video cable directly into the graphics card and not the motherboard?

Glad you got some reaction. That is a step in the right direction.

If you have a mom and pop shop or a MicroCenter nearby they surely could update the BIOS, but would probably cost more than just buying a compatible CPU and doing it yourself.

I do not have my graphics card in at the moment. Just running (or trying ) on board graphics. When GPU is in I get the same reactions. Cycles then drops after it can't find it.
