Hi,

I've been looking into the LeadTek 6800GT - from what I hear, the power
requirements, especially on the 12v line are quite high. I have a Chieftec
360w PS, with 17A on the 12v line, will that be enough? (Other componets are
a P4@2.667 Northwood, HD, DVD and burner, case fan).

/Mikael

Hi

I have this card and an ANTEC 430 TruePower PSU

The other components in the box
P4 3.4
120 & 40 GB HD
CD rewriter, DVD Rom
3 case fans

Seems to work fine, I only have one small complaint, with the size of the
Leadtek heatsink, I was hoping for a card that could overclock to Ultra and
above speeds.

I can only go to 405 Core and 1100 for memory. All the voltage modes for the
BIOS etc don't seem to help

I have an Antec Smart Power 350W supply in my Antec case and have had no
problems whatever with my BFG 6800 GT OC that I installed last August. I run
5 case fans 1 Gig of memory a Sound card, Leadtek TV Tuner capture card, 3
hard drives with one of them connected to a Promise Ultra ATA controller
card, a DVD reader and a DVD burner. A good 350 Watt will out perform a
cheap 400 or 420 Watt supply.

I recently had a 350 watt power supply which went sour and caused my
system to lockup, crash, reboot etc etc etc for many months...

I put in a new 420 watt psu and all of a sudden the FX5700 started
doing what it should have been doing all along. I thought "Now I have
sorted out the cause of all my problems lately, I will also update to
a 6600GT"...

Wow,, what a difference and I believe that the 350 watt psu may have
done the job,, BUT,, a 400+ watt PSU most certainly "does"....

Because my 6600GT has an extra plug mounted on the side, which is to
be used straight from a psu, it "might" pay to get a psu with enough
"get up and go" in it...

If you experince any signs of not enought power, replace the psu
immediately... Signs are...

Rebooting during games...
Lockups in games or any other graphics intensive apps...
Artifacts and strange lines or dots or tearing appearing in games...
Games constantly crashing back to the desktop (although many other
things can do this too)...

The above things would tend to happen after a while,, as the card
starts to warm up...

I had a generic 350W supply, and within about 6 hours it burned out after
installing my 6800GT. I got myself a Jeantech 500W supply and no problems
since, plus it had numerous extra dongles for extra fans, and still only
luke warm to the touch after max load. It has cooled down my interior too
thanks to nicely placed fans.

It's up to you, but I would be safe and buy what you can afford.
