Question Power problem with ProBox HF2-SU3S2

I have a Mediasonic ProBox HF2-SU3S2 with 4x3Tb drives which has worked reliably for several years. I started having a problem today. When I tried to power cycle the box, it would not stay on. The lights flash and the fan starts, but it turns off after a few seconds. I removed all of the hard drives and it stays on. Same with one hard drive installed, but two or more cause it to shut down.

With one drive installed, the USB does not appear to be connected.

Any suggestions?

I have that same one. 24/7 use since August 2016.

Basically...All electronics run just fine. Right up until the moment they don't.

I suspect something is amiss with the power supply.
"Fixing" it would likely be more than the $90 for a new one.


What happens if you try 2x drives in different slots?

I've tried different drives in different slots. Same behavior.

I initially assumed this was a power supply problem. Oddly enough, I've had to replace two 12v 5A P/S in the past month on other hardware.

Then the thing may be dead.

While someone might be able to fix it, labor costs would almost certainly be more than getting a new one.

I bought a new power supply on Ebay. Everything seems to work now

Is it just bad karma that I have replaced three 12V/5A supplies in a month?

I see them for around US$20. Just make sure the DIN pinout matches your original. I've encountered several dissimilar pinouts in these adaptors.
