I have been trying to find a simple answer regarding power supply connector sizes and designations. I have a older Dell PC with a model: L235P-01 power supply. My guess is that it is bad, so I order a power supply tester off of Amazon. The test has a LARGE 24 pin socket, whereas the power supply has a SMALL mother board connector. The large connector measures ~52.25mm while the small version measures ~36.75mm. My questions:

1. Does anyone make an adapter? Nobody appears to make an adapter to go from larger to small or vice versa, assuming the pinnout is the same.
2. Why is there hardly a mention of the difference in connector size anywhere on the interwebs. What am I missing?
3. What are the naming designations for these two connector form factors?

TIA

The only proprietary thing I see is the physical size of the connectors. I can't find a comparison or explanation of this size difference anywhere on the web. It appears to be a pin-for-pin configuration. both 24 pin, but one is 52mmm and the other is 36mm.

My Amazon replacement PS just arrived, and the old supply was bad. The PC is back up and running, but the size difference in PS MB connectors has me scratching my head.

Seems like just another case of a Dell proprietary connector. You might specifics about the connector via your particular model's service manual.

I did come across this: https://www.amazon.com/Hilitand-Standard-Adapter-Converter-Optiplex/dp/B09QKH9M5P

EXACTLY!
So the difference is that the larger version is simply the STANDARD ATX connector and the other is the MINI ATX connector. I don't see that designation in the PS descriptions, just SFF (small form factor). So as I now understand it, this is a Dell-only thing. I only use refurb Dell PCs. Thanks -
