Hi i have the evga 500 watt psu. I have i7 4790k gtx 970 1hdd 2 crucial ssds and the cm evo 212 cpu cooler. The reason im asking is that sometimes my pc will not boot. Is the psu the problem or could it be something else??
It should run on that PSU but if you are having problem booting, that is it will not turn on when the on button is pushed it is either a faulty PSU or Motherboard. Your system does not even reach 400watts on load.
that is very likely to be the problem. that psu is not meant for a high end gaming system. it is a base model unit. i would highly recommend replacing that with such a nice system.

I second this, and can confirm that my system (pretty much the same as yours) hits about 360W under load without overclocking
