I think that what you will find more of these days is the 6+2 pin layout. It allows you to use the 8 pin if you need it, but if you don't 2 pins separate and just sit to the side allowing you to use only the 6 pins. It allows makers to get away with having less cables, which is good for cable management, but you'll have to get creative to hide the little 2 pin connector hanging off of it if you are looking to make a super clean windowed PC.
