Ok so essentially, I have been using the same Tesla 500w for a year until the other day I bought FarCry 4 and I was playing it, then the next thing a know a huge BANG and a light flashes out the PSU and smells of burnt silicon. I opened it to discover that the transformer (230v-12v) had exploded.

I then reached out to a friend who gave me a Kloner 500w also, I stupidly played FarCry 4 again and the PC powered off again, this time without a bang or light it just stopped. It would not turn back on, but however the LED's on the Motherboard were still on.

I don't know, what to do?

Specs:
CPU: AMD FX 8120 3.89 GHz
MoBo: Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0
GPU: nVidia GTX 660

Solution
Well, the first thing to do would to avoid these cheap power supply-shaped objects and buy yourself an actual power supply. It could be that the shut down with the Kloner 500W was due to other hardware damaged from the previous explosion, but I think it's more likely just a coincidence since the Kloner 500W also sucks eggs.

I'd recommend you look at the PSU Tier List 2.0 and find yourself a REAL power supply, not some no name "power supply." I'd choose from Tier 1 or Tier 2. I've personally never heard of the Tesla brand power supplies or Kloner.

When some of the cheaper power supplys go they can take other components with them or damage them. :\ Let's pray that isn't the case here.

As well as AMD's FX series CPUs draw quite a bit of power so you'd want something a bit more reliable.

Hope I helped!

I forgot how cheap that RMx was running. Your pcpartpicker link had it at like $100 for me since I modded my pcpartpciker account to add tax and exclude rebates.

In response to everyone, after about a week of making this post i just bought a new powersupply after saving up money, i purchased the "Corsair CS650M" 650W Semi-Modular power supply, works a treat, thanks for all the responses :)
