I had a nice power supply on the way before my old one exploded killing my other parts but I realized that with a new hard drive and maybe a new mother board I would need extra cash so I canceled that order, does any one know of any nice power supplies that would run me less than $60?
my system includes an amd xp 1800 heavily overclocked up to 1.76ghz, my new epox 8k3a should be in the mail soon, and I have a SB live! and used to have 3 6 gig hard drives but they were fried, so I will be getting a 40 or maybe 60 gig deskstar soon to replace them. I need a good power supply that is not going to destroy my parts. also I am curious as to weather DEER is affiliated with enermax as I found a 400 watt deer for $40 dollars though I think I need more power.
grrr the last power supply I hadd was deer and it ruined my mother board and hard drives, although it was 300 watts it should NOT have surged through my parts like that if deer truly makes quality parts.

Enermax makes pretty good power supplies and so does sparkle (although naming a power supply sparkle isn't the best idea)... Anyway, i know that enermax has some pretty heavy duty power supplies... I'm getting their 431 watt power supply for my next comp...

Jesus may save, but I invest.

Why would you want to skimp on a PSU?
You put quality components in you Pc and then put a cheap PSU in to run them.
If you went to a heart surgeon would you ask for the bargan replacement?
The PSU is the heart of your system.
Give it some thought.

what in the duce are you talking about? I said nothing of skimping and have since found the Power supply for me, it comes with my case that I am to buy for 200 bucks, it is an enermax 460watt with dual fans, the case is an antec sx-1030
painted blue with automotive paint, it has a window in the side covering most of the side with an 80mm fan screwed into that and another 80mm on top as a blow hole, it also comes with 6 internal 80mm fans and case handles, pretty snazzy huh?

It is sounding great. The reason I said what I did, you can't find a decent PSU for 40-60 dollars for what you need for
the system you are building. The enermax 460w you mention (431w?) would be a great PSU. You asked in your first post
if there was a nice power supply for less than $60. NO, not that I am aware of. My whole point is nobody should buy a
cheap PSU. You asked for suggestions, this is one.

Someone wrote something about "The Problem with Windows" from Overclockers.com. You might want to check that out first.

Other than that, that PSU looks good. It'll leave you headroom for more components.

hehe i believe that this mans problem with his garage door was meer coincedence, there is no way that a computer window could cause enough RF leakage to interfere with two diferent peopes garage doors, although I am somewhat worried that the leak could be inward toward my components making them less stable, I may think about purchesing some ultra low noise film of some kind for the window but untill that time I am not worried. In fact I have no automatic garage door, I have to open it the old fashioned way lol, thanks for the suggestion though I had had some thoughts about that sort of thing.

I didn't read this, because it didn't apply to me, nor do I have the funds to get a window. But, I hope that everything will be okay with your setup. I had no idea it ahd something to do with garage doors. That's pretty crazy... 😱

Thank goodness you are not going to install another DEER power supply ... that would be the equivalent of going ahead and shooting the computer to put it out of it's misery.

When overclocking, you need a PSU without a fuse, so it doesn't explode during an overloaded condition and fry the other components when it goes down. A PSU without a fuse will just shut down when overloaded. And having a PSU with good heatsinks on the power transistors (such as gold, instead of tin) and dual-fans to dissipate the heat is also a really good idea.

I'd also want a PSU that had an internal fan that was monitored as well as thermally-controlled by the mainboard, and one with a manually adjustable control for the 8cm exhaust.

The EG465P-VE FCA qualifies on all counts. It's not 60 bucks, unfortunately. But it won't destroy your components, either, and that's what you are looking for, right?

It is, IMHO, just a little better than a DEER.

Here's a typical review:

I would think that an average price of around $110 is an excellent price for a PSU of this quality.

Hehe nice euphenism, how does an enermax 450watt fca whisper sound? im not sure if I can afford it, its 50 dollars more than the oc system 420watt dual fan power supply that I think I will buy, is that worth it? I realy dont think I can afford the enermax one unless it is absolutly nessecary.

Sparkle is okay, I've had one of their older 300W power supplies for a while, and I'm not sure if that's the cause of all of my recent computer problems with getting the computer to start when I press the power button and stuff like that.

Anyway I also have fond, fond memories :) of when some guy got pissed off at sparkle and hacked their web site. So I probably wouldn't buy any of their PSU's any time in the future. When it comes to brand names in the computer industry, things tend to come and go I think. 2 years from now people may be saying avoid all enermax's like the plague.

I'm researching power supplies right now. I haven't been able to get any definate answers from anyone, but it's looking as if the higher amperes each voltage can handle, the better. And from that standpoint, I'm looking into purchasing some HEC (Herolchi Electronic Co) PSU's, as their numbers seem to quite outperform the others I have come across. In fact, their 350W PSU has better numbers than some of the crap'ola 400W'ers. But they do have fuses in them...but I'm a bit confused that a fuse would cause more harm than good...don't know if I believe that one, but I'm still studying the boogers, so who knows. The two HEC's I'm looking at now have the following ratings for :
+3.3V +5V +12V -5V -12V +5Vsb

their A (amperes) ratings, respectively, are:

400W: 35, 35, 15, 1, 1, 2
and
450W: 35, 40, 17, 1, 1, 2

Not sure if my house wiring can handle 96A! Is that what that's saying, that it can max out the current @96A! That's quite a few toasters in one socket! These PSU's also have dual fans for better flow/dissipation. And with that kind of output, I don't think you'd need to worry about reaching the limits of your power needs for a short while. I am a bit confused on the ratings it gives for the fuses: T10AL??? How can you have 35A in two different channels, and a 10A fuse? Anybody know what that's about?

I'm sure they dont mean that the power supply would suck 96 amps thats just crazy, but it does look like a nice power supply, in any event the power supply would not be supplying that much ampage to your computer so I think you're good. by the way, what is the name of this power supply?
