My son has just built a new pc using an ASrock extreme 4 motherboard it works fine using the power button on the motherboard it's self. using the power button on the case has no response at all? The led's on the switch itself work fine and I've tried connecting it myself using the manual to be sure it's connected correctly but it's not having none of it. Could it be a faulty switch or is it more likely to be a motherboard fault?

Solution
Okay, so as you said you made sure it was definitely in the right place, just make sure that the positive pin is pointing to the positive plug etc... Might be that issue, otherwise, it could just be a faulty case.

You can try "shorting" the pins. You can do this by touching the two pins for the power switch on the motherboard with a screwdriver (or anything metal really)
