Up until yesterday I had a WiFi connection, let's call it Rex1, and a WiFi range extender located in another part of the house called Rex1-EXT. Now, despite the range extender, my room still struggles with WiFi, so I had opted to use a powerline adapter. With an ethernet cord connected to my laptop, the powerline adapter network would be called Rex1, which made sense to me since the powerline was connected directly into the router downstairs.

As of yesterday, I purchased a new laptop, but when I connected the ethernet cord from the powerline adapter, it listed the network name as Rex1-EXT, the name of the WiFi extender, instead of the original network name. Furthermore, I am noticing the quality of the connection is much weaker, often dropping altogether at times. I won't pretend to know much about home networking, but I'm not sure how the powerline adapter randomly decided to switch to Rex1-EXT, especially when it is not physically connected to the WiFi extender at all!
