hello and thank you.
I have a home office 30 feet from home and for last 2 years have had no issues with internet speed via my Powerline adaptors.. Over last month I noticed slow speeds in office, fine in main home (40mb) (6mb in office).. So I bought 2 new BT Mini Wi-Fi home hotspot 600 kit.. and tested.. getting same issues.. issues both via Cat5 and wifi.. sometimes it is 30-40mb in office but then it just drops to low speed.. I have checked this forum and i see other issues but was after advice .. is there maybe something switched ON in main home that causes issue?

What is frustrating is that it has worked fine for 2 years with no trouble...

thanks
rich

If I unplug both and plug into 2 new sockets (one in home and one in office) and then test.. speed is full speed again.. for a while.. so it is possible for them to run at full speed..
I've seen this too on my netgear 500av units. When I've tested them in a strip, both work fine so I know it isn't the units. You should run the same test to confirm your units don't behave this way in a strip--if they do, they're bad.
Consider the external environment. Any long wire is basically an antenna. If you have new neighbors or a neighbor with a HAM radio or something of that nature they could be interfering with your equipment. Likewise your powerline equipment, even though only 2 years old, could be generating problems. See if you can isolate it to particular times of day/night.

I too have seen a degradation in powerline speeds over time--no idea why. The only solution has been to upgrade to better powerline units. The units themselves test fine. I guess it is the wires in the wall wearing out.
