PPPoE or TCP/IP for gaming?

Hello there,

It's been about 2 months now that i started playing CS:GO again.
Because my shots didn't hit the other players, even though I know I hit them, I started doing some research about how you connect to the internet.

FYI: I'm playing CS for more than 12 years now. Over 10k hours of playtime. My problem is real.

Since we have a really poor connection (2.5 MBit tops) I am thinking about maybe setting up a PPPoE connection for my PC.

Do you think this would give my internet a (slight) performance boost? RASPPPoE was often used/mentioned regarding setting up a PPPoE connection.

Thank you for your time and I hope you can help me out with this problem.

Regards

It is highly unlikely it is the speed of the connection that makes any difference. There is huge discussion on how much bandwidth this game uses but it depends on the type of server and number of players. Most this is for if you ran the SERVER at your house. It appears the end users are only a couple 100kbits/sec.

Load the performance monitor up and look at the network graph you can see how much you are using. Key here is not the download rate it will be the upload rate since almost all internet connections have lower upload that download.

You need to compare the rates the game is trying to use to what you actually have purchased.

If you are close to what you buy ...especially if other people are also using the connection...

If you are close to what you buy ...especially if other people are also using the connection you pretty much are out of luck you need to buy a larger connection.

Still most lag issues in games are not a result of not enough bandwidth most are a result of latency issues. You of course never want to use wireless because you can get huge random latency spikes. Still sometimes you can just not use some servers if they are too far away and the latency is too high.
