hey guyz my friend is in the dilemma of whether to pre-order ps4 or upgarde a pc.
for now he is having about 400$ for pc upgrade and he is having these folllowing parts-:

specs:

processor - intel core i5 2500k

motherbaord - asrock b75m gl

ram - 4gb

monitor- acer 19inch lcd monitor (1440x900)

psu - cooler master thunder 500watt

cabinet- cooler master elite 371

hardisk - 500gb

so, guys he is not having any gpu now so suggest him a good gpu for his resolution and any more upgrades he need in that budget
thank u.

budget - 400$.

GPU- Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 xt 260$
CPU Cooler- Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO 30$
RAM- Corsair Vengeance 8gb (4x2) 70$
360$

Without CPU cooler
GPU- Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 xt 260$
RAM- Corsair Vengeance 8gb (4x2) 70$
330$

He can turn down anti-aliasing and play it just fine at 1080p on a GTX 660. The higher-resolution screen won't require as much AA because of the higher pixel density. Most games will run at 60fps maxed out with full AA at 1080p. The only games he will need to turn down AA on will be the absolutely most demanding games (Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, Metro: Last Light).

That's at nearly maxed details with 2xAA. 45fps average is absolutely playable and toggling AA and motion blur off would easily bump that to 50-60 fps. The GTX 660 even BEATS the 7870 LE in minimum FPS. And this is all on his new 1080p monitor, not some tiny old 1440x900 screen.

I'm not saying that the 7870 LE is a bad card, in fact it's a great purchase for the proper use case. It outperforms the GTX 660 in most games. But for an overall gaming experience for this specific use case, a higher resolution monitor and a GTX 660 is going to be vastly superior to a smaller screen and a 7870 LE. Games look way better on a higher res screen with no anti-aliasing than they do on a smaller screen with AA maxed out. The reason AA exists is to cover up the lack of detail that lower-resolution screens can display. If you get a higher-resolution monitor you don't need to lean on AA as much to provide added detail.

any reason you replied to my answer and said nothing?

ya i think i should go with 7870xt but my frnd said the his psu is having 500watt and only 6+1 power phase, so is it safe to use molex?

Honestly I would advise against it.. The PSU your friend has is one of CoolerMaster's lowest-tier units and if it was designed with a single 6+2 pin then it wasn't designed to run a GPU that requires 2 connectors. Yes, it's possible to run an 8-pin to dual 6-pin adapter or a dual Molex to 6-pin adapter but I wouldn't risk the whole machine for it.

so what to do? then should i go for gtx 660 ? and new motherboard for oc? or new psu.

His call. I still think the 7870XT is inferior to the 660+new monitor but if you want to keep the existing monitor and go 7870XT you'll need a new PSU. A new motherboard is unnecessary. He won't need to OC his CPU. He's going to be limited by his graphics card either way. I still think this is the best option:

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009255
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148540
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500270

Prices have changed since yesterday so it's a tad over $400 now. A different monitor could be bought to lower the price back down.

well if he has a 2500k its not a waste since he already has it, getting a decent psu, monitor will exceed the 400$ budget

so what to do?:??: CONFUSED.

2 options:

GTX 660 + 8GB RAM + Monitor
Radeon 7870XT + new PSU + 8GB RAM

Both options will be right around $400.

That's an option but it's not as good of an upgrade. You won't see nearly as much of a benefit as you think from OC'ing the CPU though. The two options listed above are much better choices for a gaming-oriented build.

iam getting gtx 660ti of gainward for about the same price as 7870xt so i think gtx 660ti is a better deal
and psu is corsair 500cx builder series, but is gainward a trusted brand?

Gainward makes solid products. All of their warranties are supported by Nvidia as well. Sounds like a great deal for that card.

so,gtx660ti and corsair 500watt OK.
how will gtx660ti prfoms in 1440x900res

a 660ti for 1440x900 is overkill get the 7870xt it will do fine

iam getting both at almost same price but what about 7870hd? is 7870hd is enough?
