In setting up a new machine with XP, I must have made some mistake with
settings or services since the preferences option (along with the cute
little puppy) is gone from 'Search for files'.

When I search for certain files such as *.wav, the search comes back
instantly with no files found (but dir /s \*.wav finds plenty of files).
I can find *.dll or *.exe but no *.wav or *.gif or *.mp3. Very strange.

Also, when I enter '\windows', the text field is converted to '*.*'

What setting or service did I accidentally turn off? If it matters, I'm
on SP2. Thank you.

Ok get your search box up in the options on the left there should be an
option to view "Other Search options" then there is "change preferences"
there is where you can change your animated screen character and get your
little puppy back if you wish that is the first option "with an animated
screen character" you can also change other options there you may have
changed by accedent go through and see what your "change files and folders
search behavior" make sure its on advanced but do not remove anything you
donnot recognize if you find it. If this does not help please be more
specific on what you are facing so I can be of better assistance.
search through and give me all the setting you have for all you searches so
I can be able to see waht you are doing.
Thanks,
Sincerely,
Beka Jo
