Hi all,

I'm soon going to be replacing my G3258 with an i5 4690 once it comes in the mail.

I've tried to search around for what to I need to do before I make this upgrade, but almost all posts include replacement of the motherboard too, which isn't what I'm replacing, I'm upgrading the CPU only.

So is it just a matter of plug and play, or do I need to do something before/after? (e.g. Windows reinstall)

Thanks in advance

Depending on your motherboard sometimes you have to update the bios to support the haswell refresh cpu's, which the i5 4690 is one of.
Do you know which motherboard you have?

But other than updating the bios, it is indeed plug 'n play.
I did this aswell when I went from an i3 4160 to i7 4790. :)

I have an ASRock Z97 Anniversary. I've never reset/updated the BIOS before, how would I go about this? And would I update before or after installation? Thanks!

I checked out the link and for my new CPU it says "all". Does this mean it's compatible with all BIOS's?
