Hallo everyone! :hello:


I'm preparing to build my first game-app-net RIGggg, Yeah... :bounce:


I have Cooler Master Stacker 832 case, ...doing some case mods now, and... I need experts opinions about some components,


1. what motherboard would be better:

a. ASUS Rampage Extreme LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard

or

b. ASUS Striker II Extreme LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI ATX Intel Motherboard



2. what CPU:

a. Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W 12MB Cache

or

b. Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz LGA 775 95W 12MB Cache


3. and I need really good Power Supply 1000W-1250W

4. what would be the best cooling option for CPU, GPU, RAM, Motherboard ...

with two hd4870 in crossfire it will be agreet deal
for the cpu go with q9550 and save some money
in that board you will find a cool overclocking feature (upgrade you're cpu speed in very easy manner )
you're q9550 can be as fast as the extreme

for the cooler the best cooler i ever used is

1. Rampage extreme - x48 rocks and is a good OC'er
2. Q9550 - OCing it won't be a problem.. If you dont plan to OC, The rampage has the step up feature which will auto OC your Q9550 to a Q9650 (consider it a free upgrade 😀 )
3. 1000 watt is an overkill. What are your GPUs? 4850 crossfire on a Q6600 consumes only 500 watt. A 4870x2 crossfire consumes 650 watts
4. Water is the best.. but if you are going for Air, then look at the Xigmatek, Tuniq or TRUE coolers.
 
The mobo will depend on what graphics cards you are using. If you are using ATI cards and plan on going crossfire then get the x48 mobo, if you have NVidia cards and are planning on going SLI then get the 790i mobo.

If you aren't going Crossfire or SLI then sack both of those boards and get a cheaper p45 board.

As for the cpu it just depends on the price. The q9650 is faster and has more overclocking headroom, but if you want to cut down on the price then the q9550 should perform fine (especially you overclock it)

For power supplies i would suggest a corsair psu, they are quality PSU's

Unless you want to invest in water cooling, i would suggest just sticking with air cooling for the entire system. For the cpu i would recomend the s1283, as for the rest they should be fine with stock cooling. Just make sure that your case has good airflow.
 
I agree go different board, please remember just because its more expensive doesnt mean its the best to get, it all depends what you're trying to power up and use it on.

I'd say go Corsair 750tx + AT HD4xxx series video card
with a ASUS P5Q mobo either green , SE , Pro

with the saved money get Q9550 and OC it
and get a CL4 DDR2 ram , unless you're going DDR3 @ 2000ghz with a cpu that can work well with it.
DDR3 I stll find it not so impressive vs a descent OC'd DDR2 ram . I mean obviously the DDR3 will pump out better numbers, but nothing so visablly noticable.

Corsair 750tx or PC Power&cooling silencer 750watt.
They both pump enough amp to be equal to alot of low brand 1000 wat psu

1. ddr3 is worthless at this point. Buy some cheap ddr2 and then when you upgrade to a core i7 get some ddr3, by that time their prices will have come down.

2. The x48 motherboard doesn't do SLI, (as stated in my first post). Again if you want to do sli then you will have to go with a nvidia chipset board (790i if im not mistaken, but be sure to double check that if you go that route). If you want to do crossfire THEN you can use the x48 chipset.

3. I would recomend getting the wd 640 gb hard drive instead of the Velociraptor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218&Tpk=WD6400AAKS
It is still a very fast drive (there will be almost no tangible differences between the two) and it has a much better gb per dollar ratio. However if you do want to get the fastest drive you can then i would suggest getting a ssd (or 2) and putting them in raid 0.

that was for your benefit. This thread is an old thread now, and it already has a lot of posts which presumably means that the questions have been answered. People aren't going to go to all the old threads to see if someone else has something in them. If you want to get a question for your answer it would be better for you to start a new thread. That way people know what question you want answered (instead of mobo questions in a "Preparing to build my first game-app-net rig") and it is a new thread so people will actually check it.

As for your question i dont have an a specific answer for you because im not using their mobos, however imo it seems like "an easy overclocking feature that increases speeds to the extreme level" would be just manually making the changes to the FSB. If you want a more specific answer or want to go more in depth with that again i suggest you start your own thread where it will actually be read.

@musqough - it looks good except for the ram (as previously stated). DDR3 ram is virtually identical in performance to DDR2 but costs a ton more, and when you do go to a core i7 you WILL NOT be able to use that ram. The voltage for that ram is higher then the core i7 can handle without risk of destroying the cpu (any ram running higher then 1.65 runs the risk of frying the cpu).way

WTF! ... I didn't receive it my order yet, ... and new CPUs Core i7 are in the stores already... :pfff:

... mobo Striker II and CPU Q9550 are getting old and out
 
if you really want to spend the money on the i7 then just return the stuff you just bought and order the i7 stuff, although it will be more expensive. just make sure you get ram that will work with the new i7 stuff.
 
I don't know, ...is it worth that to return it, probably have to pay 15% restocking fee ...and buy more expensive mobo and cpu

Why they selling product with expired warranty?

yeah no prob i've had to go that route from other retailers... but the ocz guarantee is good, you'll be taken care of i'm sure of it.
