Prescott 3 GHz w/ Gigabyte GA-8KNXP running HOT!

I have the the following set-up:

*Gigabyte GA-8KNXP (Intel 875P Chipset)
*Intel P4 Prescott @ 3GHZ
*There is good air circulation
*Thermaltake copper HS with 6000RPM fan on CPU

This machine is running @ 54C at idle! Is there a known problem with this board or the prescotte running that hot? I know the prescotts are supposed to run a little hotter and are designed to do so, but 54C is insane. The HS is definitely contacting the processor and I have thermal paste on it too. The case has excellent air flow so I don't understand what is going on.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Any know conflicts with this mother board? Please help! Thank you.

54 may be normal for your room temperature and motherboard sensors. If the system is stable, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yo mate, presshots run as hot as an aussie summer day. You think 54C is hot ? try running prime95 for an hour or so. Got to love that clockthrotteling kicking in..

But you want a suggestion ? try a 12000 rpm fan to keep temps reasonable and avoid clockthrotteling. Or just return the chip.

Dont trust sensors, they lie. If you aren't getting throttled or blue screened, your temps are fine.
