Hi! I'm having a bit of trouble installing a usb device. Windows insists on installing it's own driver. Is there any way of disabling this feature? I want to be prompted to install my own driver.

It has always been working like that. Windows installs its own driver and you install the proprietary one afterwards if you want to. The Windows driver doesn't prevent you to install another one over it.

Thanks JayGau. while on the subject of drivers is it possible to revoke permissions to "Always trust this provider" When i installed the driver the first time it gave me the option of always trusting the source. Can i undo that?

you can also turn off or disable windows "plug and play" service
then install your driver and turn it back on.
BUT, you need to be aware that windows associates USB drivers to individual ports, you should also go into windows device manager and find the option to show hidden devices then delete the greyed out entries under the usb tree. just to eliminate potential issues
