Hi all!

I've been giving some good thoughts to creating a website as a Diablo
2 Price Guide.

I know there are a few lists (Skie's at Marduke Empire comes to mind),
but most of them are either outdated or are specific to a realm.

My thoughts are to create a massive guide based on user "votes" to
span all realms. It would give people a general idea of an item's
trading value.

I know it's something that I'd find handy.

What are your thoughts?

I know there is room to "cheat" the system a bit, but I was thinking
of only allowing one vote per IP, per item... which still leaves room
for cheating, but lessens it somewhat. Also, it won't be the bible,
so common sense will often tell you if that cracked sash is actually
worth a Zod.

It'd be a large undertaking, but I think it's something that would be
useful.

Now, I'd just have to find the time...

I guess I'd list...

All Uniques
All Set Items
All Runes

+Skill Charms
+Res Charms
+MF Charms
+Life Charms
+Mana Charms

Specific Jewels (Res/Max Dmg/etc.)
Specific Amulets (Skills)
Specific Circlets/Tiaras (Skills)

Specific Socketed items

It seems like there's a lot to list.

Some time ago, I would have thought this a great idea, but after reading
here about bots, hacks, dupes, et al., it seems that any listing would have
to assume the items were legit, and apparently it is unlikely that this is
ever so. :( So much for trading; it's a completely bogus "economy."

I agree with Brian - last ladder, I got "taken" on a few trades, because
the items (mostly runes and charms) went "poof" some days/weeks after.
At one point, someone offered me a high rune for something that wasn't
worth a high rune - I cried DUPE and said the person must have thought
me a COMPLETE fool.

I read up on "perming" for D2LOD on bnet, there is (was, at least) a
web-page dedicated to preventing duped goods from poofing... that alone
is enough to undercut the hard work in putting together a site on economics.

These days on the new ladder, I've not had anything worth much - and
have only traded for specific details to help my builds. I won't trade
for a rune unless I have a socket in which to put the rune immediately.

Perhaps Blizz have done something to help the dupe and bot situation,
but I fear it will only be temporary. Sorry to sound so cynical.

Hacks are gone, I haven't seen a hacked item in ages. Dupes are ONLY done
with runes, and Blizzard can now detect dupes. Runes can be cubed up and
thus avoid the dupe check. Bots, while being quite revolting, do not create
illegal items, just an over abundance of legit items.

I think it's impossible to make a priceguide that spans all realms. I mean,
last ladder season when I was on bnet people from US realms thought I was
crazy because I said high rune is 6 Ists but that was the price on Europe
at that time honestly.

But a website with priceguides for different realms is a cool idea, I will
certainly check it out. Also you should check the forums at
forums.diabloii.net where there is a price check forum. I think there is
price guides as well, at least there were last ladder season.

At least the prices in the tradechannels and on forums.diabloii.net are
quite different, because d2.net does not allow dupes (it a ban-offense in
the forums). So you have to state perfectly clear what kind of price guide
it is.

Samiel <samiel@samiel.com>, in a display of leetness, fell down the stairs,
tripped over an urn, and then threw a cracked sash at Baal...

Regarding the thread in general, we started a little AGD trade forum for
USWest SCL a while back:

http://groups.google.com/group/agdtradesc

And one for USWest HCL:

http://groups.google.com/group/agdtradehc

If anyone wants to line up a few legit trades with their fellow AGD and AGD2
players. The forums have been very slow so far... I guess either the word
didn't get out or people simply don't have much in the way of "trade fodder".
