Here's a dumb question, but I've heard several things and not sure how to interpret all comments.

I am planning to purchase an ASUS GeForce GTX 1080, but currently I have an ASUS ROG GTX760 Striker.

Can I use the 1080 for primary graphics card and dedicate 760 to PhysX?

Solution
You can no problem.
However, there are two things to consider:
Do you play games that benefit from GPU accelerated PhysX?
The other issue is the 760 may be too slow to do the PhysX for the 1080, so the primary card would be waiting for the PhysX card to finish.
