Prime95 safe to use?

I want to do a stress test on my non-overclocked PC (i3 4170, GTX 950, 8gb ddr3) using prime95 to test for power/stability issues, but I'm concerned it might damage my computer. Cooling for the GPU and CPU should be enough although doubtless they will be hotter than usual. I would just like a second opinion on using prime95 for testing in this way. Thanks! (or if there is anything better)

Prime95 and any stress test are great tools to use. They test how your computer handles the absolute worst of loads. You should run stress tests, because you may just-so-happen to encounter such heavy load on a program outside of the stress test. It will not damage your computer - just monitor your temperatures the entire time, and if anything gets too high, you'll want to stop the test and look into better cooling solutions. If the computer shuts off during it, the power supply is likely poor quality and in need of replacement.

Prime95 26.6 and earlier, only.

Just made sure I bookmarked that!

Alright, I'll make sure of that.

is CPUID HWmonitor decent? also should I be checking motherboard temps as it is not overclocked (H81m-HDS)

So, under max load and in the middle of summer, my CPU stays at or under 65 degrees celcius on max settings. No shutdowns, restarts or blue screens. but my GPU isn't being used at all. What do I do? is the max load setting on Prime 95 enough on its own to prove no power problems?

Battlefront 3 stresses my GPU and CPU to max (CPU 65*, GPU 73-75*, both 100% utilisation), do you think this is a good indication for stability power wise?

100% gaming is not the same as 100% on a stress test. They run different instructions.
