Hi,
when i send a print job from a Windows XP computer, i do not see the printer
icon that used to appear on the bottom right hand conner of the screen
(where the time is displayed). What setting could have gone wrong?
thanks

In Windows XP, go to the Control Panel. Just click the Start butoon, go to
Run, then type Control Panel, then OK. Next double click the Printers and
Faxes icon.

Check to make sure your printer is set as the default and not the Microsoft
Office document Image Writer.

Right click your default printer, click the Advanced Tab.
Select the radio button that states "Spool print documents so program
finishes printing faster and select either Start printing after last page is
spooled or Start printing immediately.

When the printer icon appears in the Notification Area, this symbolises that
the document that is being printed is spooled, meaning it is being saved and
waits in a queue locally on your computer.

i have a windows 2000 computer which has "start printing immediately"
selected but i can still see the printer icon appearing in the
notificaition area when i print.
Could it be some settings in WinXP that hides the printer icon while
printing?

Lynn, not sure this will help but right click the clock area of the taskbar
and select Customize Notifications. Look in there for a print status icon.
If you click on text in the Behavior column, a drop down list appears with
choices: always show, hide when inactive and always hide. If "always hide"
is selected for the printer icon, change it to one of the other two.

None. I have a "show icon" option in my printer's properties sheets but
it's related to a tool installed by the driver for the printer. It's not
related to the Windows printer icon which is managed by explorer.exe.

Workaround: If you double click the printer while it's active, you should
get the print status window displayed. This is the same window that shows
up when you double click the print status icon in the notification area.

i am sure this has something to do with winXP. I have connected my winXP to
serveral other different printers and there is still not print icon at the
notification area while printing.
