Printer settings could not be saved.

Whenever I modify the the printer's property, an error window pops up and
says "Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed"

Please help.

I just reinstalled windows xp pro recently

Ensure you are logged on as an Administrator.

I have same problem and am also logged in as administrator on the computer. Can change printer settings (In my case I need to change the IP address) but it will not allow me to save. There was another suggestion: that one checks that the Server servics is working. Mine is so that was not a solution in this instance.
Any help greatfully received.

When this problem occurred on my XP machine, I went to many web sites (including this one) and tried all the solutions proposed. No matter what I did, I kept getting that awful "could not be saved" message. Through trial and error and a lot of frustration, I stumbled on a solution, at least for my case. In the Printer Properties window, I just kept changing the port setting. It had been set for a virtual USB port but, as it turned out, needed to use a Local Port setting. Once that was done, the message didn't come up again and I was able to print. My setup is a home wireless network. The main computer with the internet connection and attached printer is a Windows 7 desktop. The computer I was having the trouble with is an XP laptop. All is well. Good luck. I'd suggest just clicking on each port box until one works; there aren't that many.
