Privoxy Uninstall Issues

Not sure whether this is better here or under Windows 8, but I'll try here.

I would like to preface this by saying I am a total idiot, and this happened without very much thought or sleep involved.

Long story short, I needed to torrent, so I figured I would give Privoxy a try from Piratebay, then uninstall once I was done. Now, when I try to uninstall it, the whole folder appears to be removed. Then my internet won't work, it says "Unable to connect to proxy". So I go into my chrome settings and uncheck the "Use a proxy" box. My internet works for a minute, then the same problem occurs. I go back to my chrome settings and the "Use a proxy" box is now checked again. Then when I restart my computer, the Privoxy folder with everything in it is back on my computer. Any way to fix this would be greatly appreciated (preferably an option where I won't have to pay for anti-virus though).

Thanks for the help in advance, feel free to ask for any more information.

TL;DR I installed Privoxy, and nothing will let me get rid of it.

Very interesting. Try running MalwareByte's Anti-Malware (it's free).
So, first thing I would do is boot into safe mode and delete any folders related to privoxy in Program Files, Program Files (x86), ProgramData, and Appdata. After that, I'd reboot into normal mode, then open internet options (windows key+r, enter "inetcpl.cpl" with no quotes to get there fast), go to connections, LAN settings, un-check "use a proxy server..." and check "Automatically detect settings"

I went into safe mode, deleted all of the things with Privoxy in the name I could find, but as soon as I boot up normally it's back

The Malware Bytes Anti-Malware actually worked. Some other adware cleaners I'd used successfully in the past didn't. Thanks for the help crossroads. This is definitely going to be my go-to anti-malware from now on.

Hi, I'm having the same problem and I tried Malwarebytes but it didn't have any effect and privoxy is still sat there annoying me. Don't suppose you could help me out?
