Probable death mobo from Mosfet equals dead cpu?

Well I had a i7 950 @ 4.4ghz hooked up and mobo burnt 6 mosfet. I then didn't try to power it on once again but some weeks prior to this, I smelt something but didn't see where it came from.

I discarded of my Asus rampage 3 extreme now, the i7 950 which I had was of a good batch and was easily overclockable 4ghz on 1.18v stable. Anyways, I have seen burnt cpu but this does not seem like a burnt cpu? Also is it dead?

There are no obvious failure marks. The only way to confirm it works is to mount in a compatible motherboard etc.

That's my only problem, no available lga 1366 board. It's a costa rican chip and well its an amazing one. I had to upgrade to a 4790k not that I feel sorry for but anyways
