My new PC hangs when rebooted, likely because of bent CPU socket pins.

Windows wants to install patch 1607, but every time it does, it downloads the patch, reboots, starts to process it and hangs at 23% completed.

Then when I power cycle it restores the previous version.

Any ideas?

The only answer I could pick would be my post saying that I worked around it by power cycling instead of restarting (there are still no other problems from the pin issue), but I can't pick my post.

This can be closed.

Just for those who argue how easy it is to fix the pins, good for them.

In my case, from the time I identified it was an issue, it was clear there was zero way I could fix them. It wasn't close. I started to try a little before I realized how impossible it was and only made it worse.

I contacted craigslist services - no replies. I contacted the local computer repair store that says they fix problems others can't - they said they would not try. Finally, I took it to a jeweler after finding one that would try, and he did what he could but it was very limited. That's it.

I almost couldn't get the PC put back together the first time I put the semi-fixed system back together.

I can't fix the pins, and do not want to spend the hours and risks to take it apart and put it back together. I had a question about working around the one remaining minor issue and was not interested in debating the pins. Unfortunately, one person was snide in their replies.
