Problem installing new RAM

Hi, I recently purchased an 8gb ram module. I’m trying to help my gramps with some extra ram.

However upon installing the ram I get BSOD. With irql error.

He’s using an Aspire 4745g

The ram I’m trying to install is:

Kingston Value RAM 4GB 1600MHz PC3L-12800 DDR3L 1.35V Non-ECC CL11 SODIMM 1Rx8 Laptop Memory RAM

Aspire 4745g memory specifications: 2GB of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, upgradeable to 8 GB using two Sodimm modules.

Memory Clock speed is 1066MHz not 1600MHz. Adding extra memory has no guarantee to be compatible with existing memory.

Thanks for your reply. I’m not adding ram, I’m replacing the 2GB ram itself with the new 8GB RAM.

The memory you have has SPD programmed to JEDEC standard latency of DDR3-1600 which is what the memory runs at if left on [Auto]. You need memory that runs at 1066MHz for that hardware. I also believe each slot can hold up to a 4GB module for a total of 8GB in two slots.
