I just got my new system, a new gaming desktop, plugged almost everything in, but when it came to inserting the plug for my speakers, it doesn't go in all the way despite pushing rather hard. The speakers hum because they're not grounded. I don't really want to push in real hard because the audio is coming from the mother board I believe and I'm afraid of damaging that. Why would this be happening? I've never had a problem like this before. I've tried contacting the manufacturer, and I'm on hold for a few minutes before their system hangs up on me and it's done that several times!

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Make and model speakers?

As starting point take a look at audio plugs and ports.

FYI:

https://www.cablechick.com.au/blog/understanding-trrs-and-audio-jacks/

The article is focused on TS, TRS, and TRRS mismatches and not physical mismatches.

However, taking a close look at the plugs and ports may prove revealing.

And remember that you can take photographs and post those photographs here via imgur (www.imgur.com).

I didn't include all that stuff because the imput is a standard audio socket, one I've seen on every other computer I've had, and the jack is the same as every other mini audio jack that I've had.

This is an interesting subject. Not all ports or for that matter 3.5 mini plugs are correct and are slightly off even know there all the same.

I deal with this issue as I have loads of adapters to Y cords all from other past projects.

Yeah I have some ports that need a fix and depending on what PC, I have to plug in an old adapter into PC than the speakers or headphones into adapter. The adapters are Audio quality from years past and they seem to deal with the offset and fix the weirdness.

Sometimes I also have to plug in the 3.5 mini plug than ever so slightly pull it out about a hair or two.

I get from humming to only audio, gunfire and game sounds are MIA in games to just background music and nothing else.

Yes it could be your port but these are some of the fixes I use ever day.
