Please help.
Got asrock 970 extreme3 mobo from ebay and an fx-4130 cpu from Cex to make a cheap quad.
However the cpu refuses to go in socket. Triangles are lined up, lever is up, pins are straight, socket holes are clear but it just sits on top.
It will rock about the middle with some pins going in the socket on one side or the other.
Any ideas?

Have you checked there are no bent pins on the CPU or any pins/damaged pin holes from a previous CPU in the board. The CPU is compatible with that board so something is bent or broken to stop it just sliding in... a good way to check the boards socket is take a flash close-up with a smartphone. Any damaged hole will show up straight away. If you can post the pic and one of the CPU here using Imgur or something like that

Take some close-up pictures, and post if you want us to take a look.

Ok the pics are not fantastic, a view along the lines would be great but I see a few pins that are not straight/suspect starting from the right top and working left...

Row 1 Pin Nr. 10 & 11
Row 2 Pin Nr. 3
Row 7 Pin Nr. 18
Botton Row Nr. 15 & 23

Socket looks fine and they are not BENT just out of alignment, together that may be enough to stop it fitting. You can straighten them if you can definetly see in daylight that they are out of line. Hold it pins up against the light and look down the lines from all angles to see any deviation. There are loads if videos from Linus Tech Tips etc for example on how to do it. But a steady hand and patience is needed !!!

Got it in.
Used credit card to very slightly straighten pins after carefully looking through magnifiying glass.
Put it in almost at 30 degrees on one edge (very carefully) and brought the other edge down.
