Problem with a new system - Screen freezing in games

I built my PC last week, didn't have time to do some more excessive gaming sessions. (MSI Gaming Plus X370, Ryzen 5 1600x, 2x8GB trident Z 3200 mhz cl16, G1 Gaming GTX 1070)

This weekend finally I had time to test a few games out CoD4, Wolfenstein, World of Tanks, Cities Skylines and CSgo.

I tracked the temperature for the games yesterday with HWMonitor, highest the temperatures went yesterday were 70°C. Today I restarted and every game except CoD4 is freezing after some time of gameplay. The game screen freezes (I can still do stuff and the sound keeps going, however the frame is stuck). I can tab in other applications but NEVER can leave the stuck game screen. I can't really check the HWMonitor temperatures because of that inability to change tabs, however I'd say it's not hotter than the PC became yesterday evening during gaming. The freezing only happens when I run games, I can surf in the internet without issues and also do basic office work, so I guess it must be related to "higher" load, however there was no freezing during playing Cod4 (also the game where I reached those peak temperatures...)

I did a quick testrun with malewarebytes, it told me there are no problems.

BIOS recognizes both of my storage devices correctly, so they should be fine.

The only thing I did change in the BIOS is a more aggressive curve to keep the temperature lower.

I am a bit confused and really could need some help/suggestions how I could fix this problem, any help or suggestions on what to do is appreciated.

On the linustechtip-forum (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/849698-problem-with-games-freezing/?tab=comments#comment-10591898) they suggested to run a stresstest for my GPU with furmark since there might be issues, however during 16 minutes, the temperature toped out at 70° with a fanspeed of 60%.

Another error I can't reliably reproduce but also occurs from time to time is artifacts, screens aviable on the ltt-link.

It also seems to only be happening once I play games. Benchmarks and stresstests run for some reasons fine.

However 2-5 minutes in e.g. Cities:Skylines and the game freezes. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare also doesn't crash... Seriously, this is one of the most annoying problems I've encountered...

Temperatures with HWMonitor also are nothing special. I also tried World of Tanks, CSGo. All freeze at one point in the game, the only game running with no problems is as previously said CoD4:MW (the old one, not the HD rework)

can I verify that it is the graphic card?

If it would be the graphics card, shouldn't it have issues doing the benchmark tests and stresstests aswell? I don't have problems there, only once I start games the freezing/bars appear.

Run VALLEY for an hour and see what happens.

ok, I seem to have found the solution: I changed in nvidia 3d settings to "prefer max performace" and "always prefer maximum performance" in energy options.

I don't know if this is how the gpu should work though... Is it possible that it still is faulty?
