Problem with Asus Z97-AR??

I recently built my own gaming computer using:
i5-4690k
Asus Z97-AR
MSI GTX 770 2GB

However, while my sound is working with my earphones plugged in, my mic is not.
Is there something wrong with my system?
What should I do to fix this?

Is this a head set? mic is connected to the earphones?

100% it does not have a separate mic jac?

Did you look through all sound settings in control panel and make sure it's not muted or turned the whole way down? Also, if there's a little microphone on/off switch make sure it's not switched off. How did you determine the mic isn't working, are you testing it out in the windows sound settings? (assuming you're running windows)

I was using one of those headphones with universal control on it.
Like the ones you use with phones. It had always worked with my laptop so i assumed that it would do the same thing with my desktop

Yeah I checked the sound settings and my mic wasn't even recognized. I was trying to skype with my friends and that's when I found out that my mic wasn't working.

Look at Device Manager and see if the microphone shows up in there and if there are any problems with it. I don't know if microphones show up under sound devices, or if the headset shows up as one single device.

So it has one of those docking stations that you set it on when you're not using it? Did it come with any sort of software/driver disc? Or is there any software/driver you can download for it?
