Hello, I ask you for help. I'm Italian so sorry for my bad English. I've got a problem, but I can't give a name to it. I have a loto of color banding in some situation, but not always, and I saw that especially with dark images everything become strange and pixelated. I have done some photos for you so the problem can be more easy to understand. I have the last windows update 20H2, everything up to date, latest Nvidia driver, monitor driver and so on, latest bios ecc... And my components are:
Ryzen 5 3600
Nvidia GTX 1080 Asus Strix A8G
Monitor Benq EW3270U with HDR enabled and I checked that I have 10 bit, and full color coverage enabled
Connected with DisplayPort 1.4
I use Nvidia Game Ready Driver and I tried the registry hack for dithering, but no luck... Can anyone help me?

thats easy to tell if its your monitor settings or not
prinscreen it and save it to jpg or use win+shift+d
open that jpg with another device
if it looks there bad, than run windows display calibration

anyway this is related to greyscale (black/white) settings
which is gamma or RGB full/limited
see your graphic options for display settings

I will try that then, with windows display calibration you mean the default windows utility? With HDR Enabled I can't change a thing on my monitor OSD, so if windows tell me to adjust things on the monitor OSD I can't do that... As well as I can't change gamma or other things, I tried in Nvidia control panel to change with limited or full range, 8 or 10 bit, Rgb or ycrbc444 and things like that, g-sync enabled or disabled but nothing worked...

well i usualy dont use HDR on windows desktop, as i just stream it directly to TV
so, windows display calibration tool doesnt support wide color gamut, so its pointless to use it.hmm
try this, here are some test patterns where u can calibrate your display according to displayed images
test pattern, gama test and gradients should do
for brightness/contrast u can go with rtings test images
https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/how-to-calibrate-your-tv
dont forget to use native display resolution when calibrating

i have currently hdr enabled on desktop and from nv control panel u can calibrate it, tv for sure cant be configured, no change for brightness/contrast (only st.2084 gama control and white balance works on tv)

NV control panel -> display -> adjust desktop color settings
here u can alter it

I did some test and it's like you said, when I print screen and save a JPG on my MacBook I can see it perfectly, while on the monitor it's crap like I showed you... With windows display calibration gamma appears perfect, and I don't have any issue (with HDR I can only change gamma and nothing else), I'm at home now so I can do all the test you want, now I try the Eizo site

Ok so I tried the Eizo test and I opened the Nvidia control panel to change things, but according to the Mizo page gamma is perfectly fined (the value that is shown without any touch, or 1.5, is the sweet spot, if I increase it or decrease it I fail the test), and when I change gamma in Nvidia control panel, even by a little step, everything become strange... I will try to connect my MacBook to the monitor and try the same video to see if the problem is the same, I really don't know how to do, in the test everything is perfect, but then in the application or in normal life everything is a crap...

Gradients test failed too, even at 256 step I can clearly see the steps

ok gama is good
gradients are related to brightness and contrast (both)
u can notice while having gradient test opened in background while also having nv control panel in small window in foreground and moving those 2 sliders will affect banding

try that brightness/contrast test from rtings

if u messup nv color settings, see top right corner, theres not really visible "restore defaults" text, u can click it to reset nv colors

Thanks for your patience. I decreased brightness and contrast according to the test of rtings, and now I think I did everything correctly. Despite that, the banding and the artifacts in the black situation haven't changed at all...

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KSOMA3QBU0

cant make phone picture from tv, my phone shows supper banding there...honor 10 :/

I have A LOT of banding here, so i think nothing is solved, i really don't know what could be the problem, the monitor is new and i had no problem before, i don't understand
link to what i see right now with that video: https://ibb.co/wczmBvg

that is hevy
ok, try changing icc profile for monitor
download
https://www.rtings.com/images/reviews/monitor/benq/ew3270u/ew3270u-rtings-icc-profile.icm
open it (double click, open from download folder, or right mouse click -> install profile), no window will open
then press window key and type color management and open it
under devices select your monitor, mark up "use my settings..."
click add button and select that benq profile u just installed and press ok
select that profile and click on "set as default profile"
u can close it now
prefferably u may want to reboot

Done, but nothing changed :c I even tried to disable HDR with that profile, but both with and without hdr the banding is heavy

ok just done some test with mine TV to reproduce your last image
from your picture i can see that its not colorbanding, but black levels of the mark

nv control panel default settings are
brightness/contrast 50%, gamma 1.0

set gama to 0.75
set contrast to 80%
set brightness to 60%

Done, the problem is a little bit less visible but still there, and still heavy, both with the fluid video and with dark horse... Got to admit that colors are better tho, i like it XD What can i do then?

P.S. I cannot thank you enough for the patience

if its still visible, reduce gama, increase brightness (slightly)
try moving contrast left right where it gets better

just dont go too much overboard, little here, little there

just to make sure, try to move your head around your monitor, just to make sure its not view angle issue :p

Nono, it's not a viewing angle issue, I can guarantee XD I will try that. In Italy it's a little bit late, so probably I will try tomorrow in the morning, maybe in 8-9 hours, I really hope I can solve it... How is it even possible that Windows is so bad at color reproduction? I mean even with the notebook of my mother the monitor make the same weird banding, with an AMD card, and it's a monitor of a high level, why is it so bad :'c?

acording to reviews it shouldnt be that bad...maybe firmware update needed?

Yeah every review say that it's an awesome monitor... I updated driver and everything from Benq officiale site, but nothing changed :c I don't have my receipt anymore and the Benq call number has to be payed, so I can't even ask for assistance from the Benq...
