problem with fuji digital camera and my hp pavilion t480

Hi,

I have recently purchased a hp pavilion t480 (desktop). I have a Fuji
Finepix f700 dig. camera, with its own software. I installed the
software to the PC but no images are showing. I have checked out the
software and the camera and there are no faults with either. The
problem definitely lies within the PC. I have tried using HP Image
Zone Plus, also without success. I have tried this with the Fuji
software uninstalled as well. The xcard which contains the images does
not fit into the Smartmedia slot on the PC so the camera must be
connected to the PC via a USB port.
I have spent hours(literally!) on the phone to both Fuji and hp but so
far nobody has been able to explain what is going wrong.
I would really appreciate if anyone could shed some light on the
problem.

I definitely would make the USB connection between the PC and cammera.

My Fuji 2600, when simply USB-plugged in and turned on (the camera has
to be set to show "DCM" when a live USB is plugged into it) soon appears
on the PC as just another drive (like a floppy drive, usually "E:\") for me.

You can then go with windows explorer (or regualr DOS commands in a
Command Prompt Window) right into tha camera's directory to find the
recent photo subdirectory (2 layers down, usually).

I do NOT need to use Fuji software any more. I usually use Windows
Explorer to transfer the photos to My Pictures directory, file them,
then I use HP PhotSmart to open them, edit them, and make album sheets,
etc. Real neat and convenitent, and all under my direct control. I often
view and full screen slide-show, or special edit, them with Irfan View
(freeware from Vienna Austria imagery school).
