Hello everyone,

I have a Lenovo Thinkstation S30 0606 machine that came with Xeon E5-1607 V2.

I got from ebay a new processor Xeon E5-1650 V2 and I wanted to install it.

But when I install the new CPU I only get a black screen while I see all the fans are spinning normally.

I did updated the bios before using windows flashing utility from lenovo website with the default settings.

Can anyone help me diagnoses my problem.

Thank you all in advance!

Lenovo states the Xeon E5-1650 V2 is compatable with your system. http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/withdrawnbook/S30.pdf

Since you are upgrading from a Sandy Bridge CPU to an Ivy Bridge CPU, the latest BIOS update should make allow your system to work with the Xeon E5-1650 V2.

If you put the old Xeon back in, does it work? If so, I suspect there could be an issue with the 1650 V2 you bought.

Thanks alot I did sent the CPU back, but I want to understand something regarding this nice document you sent me, in the first table's last column that shows the machine types, I don't see my MT which is 0606 in front of any CPU with V2, do you think that it is more safe to try to get a normal 1650? not the V2?

the original(non-V) vs. V2 (and V3, etc) in compatibility makes a huge difference...

However, the V2 is listed in the supported CPU list, it is just further down...and requires a later BIOS, 4351 or 4352...

If your BIOS is from before that, it will not POST with the V2.

So guys just to clarify as I think there is a confusion here.

I got now a confirmation from Lenovo, Lenovo tech told that 4351 and 4352 are not BIOS versions, they are Machine types, s30 has many derivatives but mine is 0606. and till now there is no update for 0606 to supporty Ivy bridge that is why the V2 cant work with my machine.

But anyway thanks alot guys for your help at least your replies guided me to the right direction. I now need to target the standard version of the E5 1650

Many thanks to you all!
