[SOLVED] Problem with left button of wireless mouse

The left button of my HP wireless mouse has been acting strangely over the last week or so. When I try to click something on screen such as an icon or browser tab etc it seems to take me more than one click sometimes for the pointer to register the click.

Also when I try to click and drag across a line of text on screen in order to highlight it and copy it, the text will highlight in blue but then abruptly will stop highlighting altogether. Also there is somethings lag when I mouse the pointer across the screen sometimes.

There is a new battery in the mouse. I've never had issues with it up to now.
My other peripherals such as my keyboard and Xbox One controller work fine.

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.
