Hi all - I could use some help!

Based on my previous thread, I bought a NETGEAR 16 Port Gigabit Business-Class Desktop Switch and replaced the other two Trendnet 8-port switches (one died).

Now I can get internet for a short period and then it goes out. I can reboot the modem/router and it will work again for a period, but then goes out again. Any troubleshooting steps would be very much appreciated! Thanks

Try this - connect the router & switch, but only have one device "on" (all others powered down or disconnected from the switch/wi-fi). See if one device runs for a while. This will indicate if you have a configuration problem with two or more devices assigned the same IP, or other possible conflicts on the network.

I have Windows 8.1 on my main PC, the other day after doing Windows updates, I lost my DNS settings (I use openDNS and GoogleDNS - mainly because TWC's DNS servers are terrible)....I had to re-enter the settings. It may be possible that one or more devices had some kind of change....

If you have additional switches, routers, hubs, access points, etc., make sure to disable them as well.
I was trying to find information on the switch - specifically on how to configure some of the settings on the router.

The router itself doesn't appear to have any configuration options - so it should be plug and play. I have found that some "green" switches give problems to routers - and the switch you have has the green features.

What is the period of time that the switch works for?

The switch is unmanaged, as you point out. There are no settings to configure. That's why I'm not sure why my performance would degrade with the 16-port switch vs. two 8-port switches.

Secondarily, I am looking for modem settings online to see if all those are correct. Apparently that modem is very hard to configure correctly for bridge mode.

Correct, the router is primary DHCP server, ivp6 is off. Static devices on router are 192.168.1.99 and below, dynamic are 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.255.

I agree that changing the switch should not have caused a problem.

All my devices are working (when internet is working) except I have a home automation system (UDI ISY-94i) that is also working intermittently (it has a static address). Very strange.
