Hi i recently bought two gtx 970 from evega in hopes to sli them but once i poped them into my motherboard and everything it wont show up in the device manager or the nvidia control panel.

i have been lurking around some forum posts and done most the things including, changing the slots of the cards to check if both are working, unscrewing some of the screws to make sure the motherboard is not touching the case, tried finding something in the bios, changing positions of the sli bridge and finally just reinstall the video drivers again.

nothing. it just wont show up on the device manager. i am currently running a z97-g45 gaming mob from msi with a i7 4790 k 4,0 ghz processor and then as said before two evega 970 ftw edition. none of the cards are faulty as i have changed both of them from the middle and top slot. the bottom slot is unreachable due to the way the have put the cables and usb plugs.

so now my question is, is the card faulty? is the pcie port in the middle dead? i never tried just using one card in the slot which maybe i should but i dont have time for at the moment. when i contacted the customer support they told me to do a faulty check at their workshop but it costs me 60 euro if they detect the fault and it´s my fault which i ofcourse dont want to pay considering the computer is 4 days old.

Thank you in advance Absolut Saft.
P.S I wont be here this evening but will reply ASAP on all the questions.

1.Right, first on your list is to check with the manual what it states where each card must be placed in what or each Pci-e slot of your z97-g45.
Check to see what speed or how many lanes of each Pci-e express slot will be enabled, based on the G45 intel mobo chipset.

2. Check and make sure that all of the required power from the Psu to your mobo is fitted, meaning you have all eight extra 12v power phase connected to the mobo top right corner looking at the board in the tower or case.

3. All Pci-e 12v from the Pci-e are connected to both of your 970 cards.
4. That the Psu you have can, in wattage and in amps can provide the right requirements for a 970 SLI setup.

There is the first half.

1. Check in the bios, make sure onboard video is not running at the same time as Pci-e. The setting must be set to Pci-e, and, or if the option exists the on board mobo video solution turned off.

2. You should now ask is there any difference between the two cards I bought. if the exact same model brand and suffix skip the next step.

3. The reason why SLI is not, or does not work in some situations. relates to a fact that the cards don`t run at the exact same clock speed.

Example: First card setup in system, driver installed. Runs at a higher clock, shader, memory speed.
Add another card, with the driver still installed for first card, no SLI.
Driver must be removed, before booting into windows with SLI setup from single in some cases.

4, If any sort of overclocking tool was used on a single card. take the over clock off the card and remove the driver. Restart and setup your SLI setup.

5. Make sure that you installed all of the drivers that were provided on the motherboard cd or dvd by the maker of the board after windows was installed or detection may fail.

1. i checked the manual and all lanes are x16 so there is no differnce in the lanes so it should not be a problem.
2. I personally built the computer so I know all the required cables are plugged in both in the mobo and in the gpu.
3. Same as above.
4. I am currently running 1000w fractal design 80 platinum psu ------> http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/power-supplies/newton/newton-r3-1000w

1. When i was in device manager the onboard graphic card was showing up. Does that mean I am using it?
2. It´s the exact same copies I bought.
3. As said same cards so same clock speed I just put it together so I have not had the enjoyment of overclocking anything.
4.As said above.
5. I installed all the drivers first from the CDs which provided me with a update tool which i used to update the drivers to the current version.

Thank you for your quick and in-depth answer, hope this information helps.
