Problem with wireless adapter

Recently I have purchased a quallcomm atheros ar9285 wireless adapter for my desktop and it works great until I try and use skype, or other voice communication services, I get disconnected from the internet every time. It takes generally a few minutes for the adapter to find my internet again and connect.
I was wondering what was causing this.
Is it not able to handle the bandwidth of the internet and the data from voice communication?
If this is a driver problem I have looked and can not find updated drivers.

Try changing the wireless channel on the router you are connecting to.
