Problem with XP font change

last night I was uninstalling programs through "add/remove programs" on my
home pc, and I removed something called FoneSync. A couple of seconds later,
my computer started shutting down on its own with the message "Windows is now
shutting down" etc. I restarted and found all the icon text on the desktop
was in a different font (maybe wingings or some other graphicized font).

I have no idea what went wrong and whether this is just a font problem or if
something went wrong in the hard drive. I restarted the comp a couple of
times and got the message "your drives have to be checked for consistency" -
the check was completed, but when xp loaded, it was still in a different
font. I managed to open a couple of word documents - Word opened in SafeMode
and the documents were also in this font. I'm not sure why this happened and
don't know how I can navigate the comp since it's illegible now...

any help would be much appreciated!

Uninstalling some apps will take some shared fonts with them, which is what
you did. The below website lists all XP fonts that should be on your PC.
Compare the list to yours at: C:\Windows\Fonts
You'll need to download the ones you are missing.
