Hello,

I downloaded the new 14.12 AMD drivers about 5 days ago. Everything was fine until 2 days ago when clicking on an image and occasionally in game there would be graphical glitches such as stretching. Later it completely took over the screen mid game and froze in a black/blue screen where i could not control anything. I booted into safe mode and used DDU to delete the drivers. When i went back into normal mode the screen was covered in green/pink lines. I system restored, installed drivers 14.3, 14.7, and 14.12 again but got the same result. I went into linux and the green and pink lines are still there. When i start up windows with the new drivers the login screen is covered with distortions. When i log in it freezes at some random color leaving me unable to do anything but reboot. Any idea on the problem?

My Specs:
GPU: radeon 7870
CPU: fx-6300
OS: windows 7 ultimate 64
MB: asus

Solution
Does your mobo have onboard graphics? If so pull out the gpu and test with the integrated chip. If not, try to find another card to test with or another system to test your card in

Other tests to consider: run memtest on the RAM.

The fact it happens with any driver tested and even in linux implies it's a hardware issue of some kind.

I took out the GPU, when i went back into windows the lines were gone but when i logged in i got a bluescreen. Would it be best to just restart and try again?

It works now without the gpu just at lower res. Does this mean the card is dead?

Just wondering how it could have happened, its only 2 years old. Could the new drivers be the reason behind it? Because it seems strange that it happens only days after they were downloaded.

Theres a bit of dust on the inside of the fan and around it. I'll have to put it back in to see the how the fan is doing though.

It's spinning fine, i also changed the PCI slot. I dont think a little dust would be a problem but i might as well clean it anyways. Any other ideas?

Well probably a few hundred hours of games over 2 years which i dont think is too much.

Oh well, thanks for the help. If i ever find out the problem ill tell you what it was if you're interested 😛.
