Asus Maximus X Hero (Wifi)
2x16gb 32gb 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance LPX
GTX 1060

I recently flashed from 0505 to 0802 and 0802 is giving me serious problems (Lower CPU Clock speed, and even OC'd to 5ghz my FPS in games got cut by 2/3rds from what it was before.)

I want to update to 1003 through USB using EZ Flash. However, even though the USB drive is formatted to FAT32, EZ Flash is telling me that "This is not a valid BIOS" or something along those lines. I renamed the file to M10HWIFI.CAP and M10H.CAP as well and I am still getting the same problem.

I also am aware of the ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 "program" that my Mobo CD came with. And I'm also having problems with that. The manual directions say to:

1. Turn on the computer
2. Insert the motherboard support DVD to the optical drive
3. The utility automatically checks the devices for the BIOS file. When found, the utility reads the BIOS file and enters ASUS EZ Flash 3 Automatically.
4. The system requires you to enter BIOS Setup to recover the BIOS settings.

Yet, this isn't working either.

Please help!

Solution
Does Everquest have a game client and is it possible to verify your files.? Is your current settings and card showing up in the settings menu. Sorry but I don't know Everquest but i'm familiar with MMORPGs and GW2.
Not much help I know but i'm grasping at straws atm.
I also have the Samsung 960 EVO M.2 drive and don't think that's the issue.

Multi core enhancement may be best disabled and have all cores in sync and a fixed core frequency set when Overclocking. Not 100% sure as I don't have MCE in my Bios which I think is the equivalent to turbo boost.

Updating Bios would bring Bios back to default.
I'm researching atm however formatting is a bit radical and I can tell your patience is running thin. lol

Hmm, If you can successfully...
Unfortunately I don't have such a way to verify my files as you're describing.

And no, I'm a pretty patient guy. However, EQ is kindve my part time job so I am losing some money as long as this problem persists so I would like to solve as fast as possible. Not getting aggravated though. =P

I actually reformat every 6 months just because I like to start fresh every so often, so it's not that big a deal to me.

Going to reformat the one drive, reinstall EQ, drivers, etc, and see if the problem is solved. Will check back as soon as the install is finished though. =)

Posting on my phone. Installing drivers now. I actually reinstalled windows on the 960 Evo instead of the 840 Evo and it took a whole 7 minutes to install LOL. Shouldn't be too much longer but if I can't get it fixed tonight it's okay I'll be home tomorrow as well

YES YES YES YES YES!!!! FIXED!!!! YEEE BABY!!!....Yay !!!...=D
Sucks I had to reformat but hey im back in business !
Thanks for all your help man.

While we're here though, wondering why you were suggesting the 1080? I was either going to get a 1060 just cause my 760 has this little fan rattle thats driving me nuts and its about time for an upgrade anyway but...I was also thinking about just using it until it died and then get a 1080 ti or 1180 ti if they're out when it does die...Although I'd need a 700$ Monitor to go along with it.=p

Well done testtube :) So glad you have it sorted. Yea sometimes you have to resort to a clean instal.

I have the EVGA 1080 hybrid as i'm in a hot climate. I have it Overclocked and performance is on par with the 1080 ti. I use EVGA precision OC and "K" boost. I'm hooked up to a 4K monitor and graphics are superb. Give yours a try.

I'm just so afraid of the prices right now...This is my current build minus the 1080 ti...

I'm about to purchase those last 3 pieces (Not the GPU) in the next hour or so and possibly a 3-4tb HDD.

Are you saying not to wait until prices drop because you don't think they will? (It's gonna be another 2-3 months before I can afford a 1080 ti + 4k monitor anyway)

Oh I'm going to purchase the cooler right now...I was asking if you thought GPU prices were going to stay high for a good while?

(I also just OC'd to 5ghz and ran AIDA64 for 10min and capped at 92C which isn't exactly scary but definitely is hot, gonna go back to stock speeds and wait until this H115i comes before I OC again)

I doubt prices will come down until the new cards are released.

Like I said earlier: Quote: "You never jump to a target frequency in one hit especially to 5GHz"

This is because at stock, most settings are at default and many set on Auto. Overvolting can occur if you just set the multiplier for 5GHz and no fixed Vcore and no static settings. That's why you do it in 200MHz stages and stress test as you go. Evaluate your results and make necessary changes for stability, rinse and repeat till you get your MAX OC. Sustained temps at 92C are not good and will diminish the CPU and that's not recoverable. Ideal Temps under load should not exceed 65C and the occasional rise to 75-80C is OK.

Once your cooler is installed and tested at stock, then we can evaluate and begin the OC process.

Came across this post looking for answer to my problem

Did you say you can get back the original bios version from the disc that came with the motherboard?

If so how to you go about doing that ?
